The 2013 SummerScreen Lineup Revealed (Also, Help Us Choose this Year’s Final Movie)

SummerScreen Blog Post

Mark your calendars, dear readers, because SummerScreen is back for another season. Yes, Williamsburg’s biggest and—you know, why not just say it— best outdoor film series is taking over McCarren Park once again to bring you a free film every Wednesday all summer long starting on July 10. This year, just like every other, you’ll find us at the corner of Bedford Ave. and N.12th St, right next to the tennis courts. Our ankles will likely be bare, and we will definitely have a can of beer in one hand and some delicious local foodstuff in the other. We’d recommend getting there early; doors to the park open at 6:00pm, bands go on at 6:30pm, and films start at sundown. This year, Todd P will be curating the SummerScreen music lineup on behalf of SHOWPAPER; updates to come!

And because we’re such big fans of the democratic process, we’re letting you, yes you, choose the sixth and final film of the 2013 SummerScreen series. We’ve chosen a list of nominees, and you’ll have the chance to vote for the one you’d most like to screen in front of 5,000 of your closest friends and neighbors. Let’s take a look at the contenders, shall we? This year, you can choose from MallratsThe Neverending StoryHigh FidelityThe Breakfast ClubThe Big LebowskiHeathers, and Scream.

To cast your vote for the film you’d most like to see, visit our Facebook page and make your voice heard. The winning film will be announced on Wednesday, August 7th, and will screen on Wednesday, August 14th. Tonight at the Final SummerScreen of the Year: Empire Records!

We’re going out with a bang. Or no bangs. Better yet, a shaved head. That’s right, we’re ending the SummerScreen season with our favorite 90′s comedy starring a jar-headed Robin Tunney and an impossibly lovely Liv Tyler. Empire Records!

And get there early for the final SummerScreen set of the summer, brought to you by Todd P and Showpaper. This week’s bands include noise-pop outfit (and electric-cello-wielders), Life Size Maps, local electronic dream poppers La Big Vic and noise makers Fuck Ton with their special guest, Ezekiel Healy.

This one’s gonna be big, so make sure to grab your VIP tickets now. We’ll save you a spot with a great view and set you up with vouchers for our food vendors including V Spot, Cemitas, Little Muenster, Brooklyn Bangers and Pizza Moto. And you’ll get beer courtesy of Sixpoint, as well as a dessert from Coolhaus. You also get to party with us at our SummerScreen after party at the King & Grove rooftop.

As always, we’re raffling off some rad prizes, this time courtesy of our fave bicycle shop, Ride Brooklyn. We’re giving away a gift bag with a Ride Brooklyn t-shirt, water bottle, floor pump and a $30 dollar gift card. Interested? Of course you are. To sign up, just find one of friendly L Mag interns or sign up at our information table at the entrance!

So bring your friends and join us at McCarren Park (the corner of North 12th and Bedford). Doors to the park open at 6, the music will start at 6:30, and we’ll start the movie by sundown. Thanks to everyone who voted! This is the day your life will surely change.
